Masterchef Alice Zaslavsky and Minster For Youth Ryan Smith

Masterchef Alice Zaslavsky & Minster For Youth Ryan Smith

Masterchef Alice Zaslavsky and Minster For Youth Ryan Smith are about to come head to head with each other, pairing up with two young people in a cooking challenge on stage at this year’s Australian Teenage Expo.

Alice is a school teacher at heart that has become a Masterchef and now a TV host to a very cool Australian cooking game show for kids called Kitchen Whiz.

With a rich family Russian Jewish history, a love of cooking and a background of being a teacher (In fact the Deputy Head of Humanities). Alice then decided to audition for the 2012 Australian Masterchef. After becoming a finalist and a very popular contestant on the show, it was a natural progression for her to combine her bubbly personality and love of food, into her very own cooking show.  Alice is fun, entertaining and is always excited to take on a cooking challenge.

The Hon. Minister for Youth Ryan Smith was once working in the financial markets. With his love of politics and a passionate representative to his local community, he became a sworn Member for Warrandyte in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs. Ryan was then promoted to Shadow Minister and Shadow Parliamentary Secretary. Bringing his experience from parliament and his financial advisory background, he knew he was committed to providing Victorians with practical outcomes. With his charismatic and down to earth personality, he is now ready to leave his political background behind for just 30 minutes and see if he can take on a Masterchef and cook up a storm fit for a Prime Minster.

Alice Zaslavsky will always be a teacher; as a fourth-generation educator, it’s in her DNA.

These days, her classroom goes far beyond four walls and a white-board. With her bubbly personality and boundless enthusiasm, she has taken her passion for learning, for food and, above all, for living life with gusto, to kids and grown-ups alike.

Alice’s ultimate mission is to use food to engage and excite the next generation of eaters, turning them into curious cooks and even curiouser individuals. As host of the popular children’s game-show ‘Kitchen Whiz’, traversing the country as MC-extraordinaire, “Adventurer-in-Residence” at Prahran Market and with a kids’ food book slated for early 2015 release, you could say she’s making this Mission Quite Possible.

Born in Tbilisi, Georgia, Alice’s love of food was influenced by family feasts and weekend trips to her grandfather’s Dacha. After migrating to Australia at age 7, she spent much of her youth engrossed in the cuisines and cultures of distant lands as she traveled the world with her academic parents.

This sparked a keen interest in adventure, which she’s continued to cultivate; notching up a trek to Everest Base-Camp, reaching the Arctic Circle, walking over hot coals, and going deep-sea fishing with sharks on the Great Barrier Reef. For her, life is all about saying “yes” and being constantly inspired by new challenges.

It was for this reason, that when auditions came up for ‘MasterChef’, Alice made the difficult decision to leave her career as Deputy Head of Humanities & Middle School English Teacher behind, to enter the hothouse of gastronomical education. A quirky sense of humor and fun-loving nature saw Alice become a favourite of the series, especially with younger viewers.

Catch Alice on Kitchen Whiz 7:30AM weekdays from May 18 on Channel 9’s GO! Her recipes, adventures and general musings on life can be found at www.alicez.com.au or follow her on various forms of Social Media as @aliceinframes.
